What I *bought* todayThis is a discussion thread · 186 replies Trilby: I had jury duty yesterday so I spent the day at the Daley center in the Loop. During my lunch hour I wandered over to Marshall Field's State Street flagship and discovered that they have opened a Merz Apothecary boutique. (For non-Chicagoans, Merz's is a wonderful store in Lincoln square that sells homeopathic medicines and an incredible selection of bath and body goodies. They're on the web at www.smallflower.com.)I bought: Roberts Borotalco talcum powder (Italian baby powder) and a cake of the soap I love the non-Johnson's baby powder scent of these! a huge cake of Portuguese melon-scented soap the size of Claus Porto, but a different maker smells so fresh a cake of Lightfoot's Pure Pine Athletic Soap TSMIM loves this Three Kneipp bath fizzies in Pine, Rosemary, and Orange Linden Mixed Emotions "bite me" Chocolate Comfort body scrub Mixed Emotions "bite me" Chocolate Comfort body cream I already have a tub of this on its way from Hampton Court, but when I smelled it in real life, I had to buy it. OMG this is the most amazing chocolate scent ever like devil's food cake batter I moaned audibly when I took a whiff of the tester! L'Aromarine EDT sprays in Vanille, Mure Berry, and Cola (!) These sprays have a beautiful art-nouveau label and at $16 each, were irresistible. You haven't lived until you've smelled like a glass of co-cola. This is a really fantastic boutique they have everything Caswell Massey, Santa Maria Novello, Votivo, Diptyque, Truefitt and whatsis, etc. etc. What a fabulous resource for Chicagoans. Priscilla

I thought about checking out Field's because I've heard their new boutiques-within-a-store are great but then I figured I needed to get back to the office. I shoulda taken the time. Merz rocks! Priscilla, did you check out any of the other shops? fig Who's The Fairest? www.whosthefairest.com

Unless you want to go to the Sears Hardware, but I have all that type of toys I need. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month: http://www.nbcam.org /

After I got sucked into its tractor beam for a while and bought all my loot, I had to get back to jury duty. I didn't know these boutiques were there, and I didn't spot any other boutiques. Now I'm wondering what I missed. Priscilla

Stacy Ferguson: At L'Occitane (a quick stop): Eau de Miel. This is their new alcohol-free fragrance and smells just like the rest of their honey-scented stuff.Stacy

Nadya: Yesterday - at Nordstrom -Naturalizer Lea brown ankle boots. I can't find a picture. They have a slenderish stacked heel and not quite pointy toes. and succumbed, on my third viewing, to these Stuart Weitzman pumps: http://store.nordstrom.com/product/product.asp?StyleID=2817457&Category=&Search=True in Cola Suede - which is a dark brown, not the camel the web site shows it. Not cheap, but I have a pair of SW mules that are at least three years old and have held up like champs. Or so I kept telling myself all the way home! Nadya

Trilby: After my morning walk I stopped by Bravco on Oak Street to pick up toothpaste of course while I was there, I picked up a bottle of Olay Regenerist serum, a Lady Speed Stick in the original pink fragranced version which I haven't been able to find in a while, a Goody tortoise shell barette, some Goody smooth covered elastics in autumnal colors, and travel sizes of Colgate, Dove Invisible Solid antiperspirant, and Johnson's Baby Powder. I love this store! The wall of samples/travel sizes alone is worth checking out. Then influenced by reading too many Stephanie Plum mysteries I stopped at the Corner Bakery and bought doughnuts for the family. Priscilla

Alison L Miles: Too much (I have an upcoming Las Vegas vacation) and I need to be stopped.- 3 pairs of shoes at Payless, which I don't usually frequent - 2 pairs of Mizuno running shoes at Marshalls ($40, and they sell for $100) - Halloween candy for trick-or-treating at work - 4 pairs of Juicy pants from bluefly.com (at least 2 will go back) I think there's more, but I really don't want to think about it. -Alison
