The Tog Shop (on line at www.togshop.com)[/nq]actually, i have a few things from the tog shop and have NOT been disappointed. i like their robes and "breakfast coats", for lounging. Caryperk39: Priscilla - great thread!I am scared by one of the Nordstrom catalogs that arrives - it's kind of the old lady Nordstrom styles with lots of baggy long jumpers, elastic waist pant sets and dorky jewelry. Still, I could snag a machine washable pair of suede pants or jacket from the catalog if I weren't so embarassed to have it in my house. I have had a similar reaction to the Marshall Fields catalog, which I somehow receive after opening a charge account to get a discount on a huge haul in Chicago years ago... dork city - except for maybe one cool item. (plus frango mints) Avon catalogs also fall into this category for me. (sorry, my favorite Avon a.f.er) Cary p.s. I vote no on the Bass shoes - you're not over the hill yet, trilby.

Mags: I agree: You must buy the Sunjuns, but only if you promise to awkwardly cross your ankles while wearing them.MM...thickly cushioned suede-covered arch support. In answer to your survey, Chadwick's of Boston (named thusly so as to distinguish it from Chadwick's of Madison Avenue or Chadwick's of Beverly Hills, I guess) makes me nervous because sometimes I think to myself, "Ooh...cute." That's when the address label comes off and I take it down the street to the corner wastebasket to discard. In the dead of night. Wearing sunglasses and a hat.

kayper: [nq:2]5. And of course, the number one, which thankfully, I ... scary, and not in a tempting way. Just ... scary.[/nq][nq:1]heh heh, so true. Check this out! What a panic![/nq] For once I'm honored, thrilled and relieved to not be included in something. I've never even heard of this. Thank Goodness.

Madolyn: [nq:2]What catalogs make you worry about your own taste?[/nq][nq:1]Fun thread! I completely agree with your list and have some to add...Bedford Fair(which is just like Appleseed's, etc.), Crossing ... thein-store selection). Also assorted catalogs such as Lillian Vernon and othersfeaturing sweatshirts with things like cat motifs stamped on them.[/nq] Agree with all of these above (and others mentioned in the thread). I don't think anyone has mentioned Blair my MIL used to get that. Another scary one that I used to get back in the 80s probably because I was an Utne Reader subscriber was the Deva clothing catalog. They're still around online at http://www.devalifewear.com /. Madolyn

Alison L Miles: [nq:1]Well, it happens to me all the time, so here is my list of the top catalogs that make me ... pair for years. Now I can't order them, because they're in the Tog Shop catalog. I'm scared, I tell you![/nq]Oh my. You just brought back painful memories of my childhood. My mom used to LOVE that store, and she'd drag me into it for hours on end. Since we had to drive for a bit to get to that particular one (in Americus), we had to stay a long time to make it worth the trip. My scary catalog is Newport News. So much of their stuff is so bad, and you just know it's gonna be bad quality, and I can't even bear to look at the pages of colored jeans and matching plaid flannel shirts. However, every once in awhile, I'll catch a glimpse of a nice bag or lacy shirt that I like, and then I feel ashamed, cheap, and dirty. And tempted to order. -Alison
