Tattoos are a fad and it will pass - then what !!! ?This is a discussion thread · 20 replies i know this isn't going to make me very popular here, but isn't this all just a fad? all i can see on tv is tattoo this and tattoo-me, and this ink and that ink and it just goes on and on and now there's a whole generation covered in ink - and loads of it looks horrible - just because kat von whoever told everyone it was a good idea. what' everyone doing!!!!!!!!! this is a fad!!!! what's next? it'll change, and then what?? you're all covered in ink and looking stupid. why's everyone doing something which is so permanent. does anyone actually have a good reason to get a tattoo? nah. tats have been around for thousands of years so the fact that every 16 year old seems to have one doesn't mean they're just a fad. there's definately more at the moment and they'll move on to something else but the artform is much older than any tv show and it'll last long after they're all gone and the kids have started wearing blouses and long skirts or rollerboots or egyptian headdresses or whatever the next fashion is i agree, even if all the shows end, tattoos will carry on as an art. the bad ones just go to show that it's a real art, and it takes a real artist to design and give you a great tattoo people say this a lot. who cares, if you love your ink then that's all that matters. if you're too stupid to think it through before you get a piece, then that's your problem, don't be a wuss and go crying about it after it goes out of fashion. it was never meant to be about fashion, but about something that has meaning and beauty to you. if you didn't get it for the right reasons, then you probably will regret your tatto, but if you got it for you instead of for what other people think, then it'll be welcome for as long as you've got. there's definately a lot of fad going on - 15 year old girls trying to get in with the older crowd, and a lot of post emo kids copying eachother - but they're more into the piercings anyhow. the art of tattooing isn't a fad though, that's like calling modernisim a fad or hot rods a fad, or portrait photography a fad. they're not, they're types of art people love. if everyone's doing it at the mment, that doesn't mean t'll disappear one magical day - it's a style of art accessible to the public, and folks just want to show themselves off. there's a lot of emphasis on how you look, so portable art's popular. and when the mainstream move on, it'll just keep going until the mainstream gets back into it eventually or something TRAMP STAMPS AREN'T AN ANCIENT ARTFORM DUDE !!!!! they're from the 90's at best. that's the 1990's to be precise.
