I have a small black blob on the side of my foot that used to be a heart. Another girl and myself did them on ourselves with the sewing needle and crappy ink technique at Girl Scout camp.

While it was a -very- stupidd thing to do, I don't regret it. I actually smile when I think back and remember that time, and realize that body modification is truly a part of who I am and always has been.

When the Samoan Islands were first seen by Europeans in 1722 three Dutch ships commanded by Jacob Roggewein visited the eastern island known as Manua. A crew member of one of the ships described the natives in these words, “They are friendly in their speech and courteous in their behavior, with no apparent trace of wildness or savagery. They do not paint themselves, as do the natives of some other islands, but on the lower part of the body...

Sak yant, (also called yantra tattooing), is a form of sacred tattooing practiced in Southeast Asian countries including Cambodia and Thailand. Sak yant are normally tattooed by Buddhist monks or Brahmin priests. The most famous temple in the present day for Yant tattooing is Wat Bang Phra in Nakhon Chaysri, Nakhon Pathom Province, Thailand. The Yantra designs that already existed in Hindu India were adapted by the Khmer as Buddhism arrived...

I've actually done at least 3 tattoos on myself. A celtic cross on my left ankle, a flaming/bleeding heart on my right ankle and the words "Dead Doll" across my knuckles (since convered up) I don't regret it at all, it was a good time. ^-^

It's nice to hear other people have and don't regret their choice! Recentlly I've heard way too much bashing about doing so. I just needed to hear there are people out there who care about tattoo's because of the experience and the emotional attachment not just the looks of it.

just started my first piece on myself. i've known i wanted to tattoo for a while. i just got all the equippment and practiced a bit. i've done a tribal tree with a moon in the background on my friends forearm and just finished the lining and shading on a ship on my calf. definitely harder to tattoo yourself than someone else. but despite the mishaps i will never regret it nor any future work i'll do on myself. i suppose it comes down to whether you care about the look of it or the meaning.

It's a great thing! I'm tattooing myself and the results have been good! It only costs me the materials used and I can stop when I want, not being on the clock. I can pick another time to layer any adjustments necessary and learn at the same time. I'd rather make mistakes on myself than on someone else, but so far the mistakes have been very minor and are correctable. Finding preferences from metal to lexan grips and tubes on myself has been rewarding also. If you're going to do work on yourself, first have good equipment and the only letdown will be your present ability and not a permanent reminder of how you were lacking proper equipment, ending with a regrettable mess. Good luck!

Hearing your answer made me a bit more sure of my decisions. Honestly I have already tattooed myself...lets...see....four times. Recently I had getting some slack about my decisions to have done so even though the out come was satisfy for me. In fact I have a few pics of my own work on my page, if you'd like to  check them out and let me know how I did I would appreciate the gesture.

Your right it is a learning experience!

I love what I've done on myself and am very proud to show it off.

Yes! My first was ok, my 2nd was a lot better and my 3rd was the same. They still need work, like being layered to finish off color gradients, etc., but it's fun and saves a lot of parlor time / $ !!!
