Returning my Sephora.com haul

I had bad luck picking out my latest Sephora haul so I guess I'll be doing my first return to them.
Too Faced Pucker Polish in Candy: Supposed to be pink but the stain is a very dark berry color on me. The gloss on the other end is so pale that it doesn't even show up and the wand that's used to apply it is rough and scratchy.
Smith's Strawberry Lip Balm: Not a bit better than chapstick. In fact, chapstick is more moisturizing. Definately not worth $6.

Bourjois Ultra Glossy Lipstick in Lilas Romantique: My bad. Just not a good color for me.
Urban Decay Menage A Trois: I couldn't believe how small these are! I was expecting the containers to be the size of spice jars. And none of them smelled too great to me. Just not what I expected. Maybe I should stop buying food flavored makeup and just go eat a darn cupcake.

Have you all had an easy time returning items to Sephora? They won't get mad and stop shipping to me will they? <:O

Yes. I've returned a few things in person and via mail and the refunds were processed promptly and politely.

but how can you justify returning the Smith's Lip Balm? What were your expectations?

Not that I know the specifics in this case, but I am beginning to wonder whether stores are taking returns back simply because the customer had unrealistic expectations.
I know of someone who bought 100% cotton sheets at Macy's (around 300 tc), washed them and then was unhappy that they came out of the dryer wrinkled. They were 100% cotton, what does one expect?! It was also claimed that they didn't feel as soft as before they were washed (maybe ironing the wrinkles out would have helped the feel, dunno). The person actually expected Macy's to take them back after she washed them simply because they weren't what she expected, even though there was nothing wrong with them and there weren't any false claims about the product. She actually thought it was their fault even though she had unrealistic expectations.
The fact that Macy's took them back when there clearly was nothing wrong with the sheets says a lot for Macy's. I think perhaps the "QVC money back guaranteed regardless" has raised customer expectations awfully high. Or at least in this case it did.

We take everything back at Penney's too. As long as you have a reciept, we really don't care why you return it. I don't know how many formal dresses we've returned after people have worn them once.

Wrinkles, yes, the customer was unrealistic. But if the sheets were coated with something that made them feel finer or softer or silker before washing than they'd ever be after being washed and that's not unusual then IMO it's not the customer at fault. If I'm buying something washable, I expect it to be pretty much the same after washing (and ironing, as appropriate) as it was before same size, same color, same texture.
On the whole, though, I agree that returns seem to be getting out of hand, and I'd rather not pay for repeated large-scale instances of buyers guilt or binge shopping and returning.

Yeah I agree. I don't think I've ever returned anything I've actually used in any way unless it's faulty - it just seems wrong to me, I don't know why.

Smokey:
It seems wrong to me, too. I would be embarrassed to return something that wasn't faulty. The whole idea of returning used things is totally foreign to me. Increases the prices for everyone else in the long run.

It was very hard. It's advertised on Sephora as being "a combination of rich emollients that lock-in moisture and banish dryness after only one application." I thought it was just awful. It was so hard I had a rough time getting any product on my finger. Maybe I got an old pot or something?

No, that's the texture. I didn't like that version at all. Smith's Rosebud salve is much better. It's soft and a little glossy. It may seem expensive at $6, but my tin has lasted forever. In the end, it's a better deal than Chapstick.
