Italy Landscape Photographic Workshops...
Pictures from my recent June workshop in Abruzzo can now be seen here [link] abruzzo june 2009 There are also pictures from the damages caused by the earth quake with the epicenter close to L'Aquila. L'Aquila was the location for the recent G8 meeting. I have a new workshop in the same area in October from 22-26th. Please find the desciption here [link] workshop abruzzo october 22 26 2009. There are still a few seats available. It is a fantastic place for photography and it is intended that the group of participants is international. The workshop is intended for the serious amateur and the workshop covers a range of topics from artistic to technical aspects of landscape photography. HELP: Trying to remember photographer...
Hi - I'm trying to remember the name of a photographer who did some work years ago that I loved. I think the work was probably in the 70's. They were beautiful color photos of trees - exquisitely subtle and detailed. If I remember right, he was working in color when only a minority of "serious" photographers were doing so. George Tice keeps coming to mind, but I think I must have him confused because he seems to have done mostly gritty urban stuff in B/W. The name Elliot is also rattling around in my brain, but haven't found that match either. If anyone has any idea who I might be thinking of, could you throw out some names? Thanks! Michael

Techy photo postcards for the asking till...
My department at Rochester (NY) Institute of Technology produced several postcards that may be of interest to photography and/or imaging technology instructors anywhere. These postcards have a "technical" orientation rather than an artistic one and may lend themselves to being jumping off points for discussion of relevant technology and physical principles involved. They are free. Information at: [link] Actually they might be of interest to anyone connected with photography! ... until supply lasts! The lone figure of a child against a dramatic and imposing sky. The child is farewelling family as they head out to what appears to the child as an overwhelming quest against the elements. 2nd Winner - Fishing by Khaing Myat Tun (Myanmar) A meticulously composed image, Khaing Myat obviously spent some time and thought creating this almost graphic style image. 3rd Winner - Maori Cliffs by Don Featherstone (Australia) Don Featherstone uses his photographic pallet to great effect. The soft light, the richness of colour convey the majesty of these timeless cliffs.

Canon lens
I'm in the market for a good versatile 200-300 mm lens for a Canon XTi. Any recommendations on the canon lens vs the Sigma's. I would like to keep it under $500.00. TIA
