Please recommend Chicago tattoo shopThis is a discussion thread · 55 replies Anonymous: For quite some time I have wanted a tattoo (my first) to represent my relationship with my wife and our kids. This past weekend, my wife had a brain aneurism. They caught it early, but we still have a hard road over the next week. She is at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, right downtown. We live 3 hours from Chicago, but now, of course, I find myself there. Now more than ever I want to get this tattoo. Can anyone personally recommend a shop nearby? I know from Googling that there are MANY in Chicago. So I was hoping for personal recommendations from people with great things to say about a particular shop/artist.

Curt James: (...[nq:1]I wasn't asking for a master list of tattoo shops... I can get that from Google. I was asking for someone who has had PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.[/nq] Don't bother arguing, Mitch. I suspect you'll get nowhere fast. Unless, of course, you get satisfaction from calling a jerk... a jerk. Then, hey, by all means! Getting a tattoo to represent your relationship with your wife and kids is a wonderful idea, of course. How is your wife? Wishing her a speedy and (more importantly) full recovery, of course. re Northwestern Memorial Hospital While at the hospital, you may want to keep your eyes peeled for any nurses, hosp employees with nice art. It's possible you might find someone with local knowledge that way, but I'd recommend you pick up the local phone book and then visit a few shops nearby. [nq:1]Can anyone personally recommend a shop nearby?[/nq] Lish offered a name and a bit of anecdotal schtufff. Have you contacted Patrick Cornolo? And Golgotha, maybe? Unfortunately, he's absent of late. [nq:1]I know from Googling that there are MANY in Chicago. Of course, you'll probably have to come back and ask us what tattoo you should get to commemorate such a loving relationship. Kavin

I was asking for someone who has had PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.[/nq][nq:1]*Please chill and assume less.[/nq] You assume, too. Are you chill? My impression is... no. [nq:1]Let me explain extensively: you aren't familiar with the people here. You obviously didn't check the list. "The list" is[/nq] Nothing more than a list. Names of artists and studios. Occasionally with dead links. Google does as good or better, imo. Consulting the yellow pages and then following up with an in-person visit is much better than relying on "the list". [nq:1]a quality review from personal experience(s). Lish is considered a tattoo authority/expert on at least two continents.[/nq] She's a person with ink. A canvas. An interesting combination of arrogance and attitude, yes, but her list is lacking in that there are no anecdotes and it's absolutely dated. [nq:1]I understand you are under quite some stress but saying something isn't relevant (while you skipped it) won't help you achieve your goal.[/nq] Here's your assumption showing. He said "I can get that from Google." wrt to lish's list. And he obviously followed the link in order to note that fact. What have you done to help him achieve his goal? Thought so. [nq:1]While you're at it have a informative read and let yourself be humored: http://www.[/nq] That person has nothing to offer. Their writing, though humorous to some, is more often than not useless, imo. Some might call them bitter, confused, and conflicted. Curt http://curtjames.com /

Curt James: [nq:2]I wasn't asking for a master list of tattoo shops...[/nq][nq:1]It's not a master list, it's a list of masters.[/nq] Oh my God. The so-called "great" list of lish-approved tattooists is nothing more than a list of artists. Yes, many who create stunning, award-winning work, but certainly the fact that lish created the list has nothing at all to do with the quality of said work. List of masters versus master list was catchy, though, Nina. Kudos to you for your wit. Still, and for the love of Pete (or whoever the patron saint of pomposity might be), it's JUST a list. A list that lish made up. How'd she do that? Gee. She's been tattooed by the artist. Or she only saw one tattoo by the artist or only ONE that she liked enough to check credits but it was "really nice"... Really nice? Well, if that's not a reason to call someone a MASTER TATTOO ARTIST... And, by her own admission, "this means the artist has potential, but it's not a solid recommendation." How does ~THAT~ qualifier denote a list of masters, Nina? 1337 (>->i(: "It's not a solid recommendation."=FCber fan: "B-b-but it's a List of MAAsters!" Lish's flippant, imo, "! =3D i extra-bonus-a-lot like this artist." gives me the sense that her list is just as much an example of her taking the opportunitiy to offer up some witty writing as much as it is a magnanimous example of her providing a list of artists for those individuals seeking quality tattooists. YmmOBVIOUSLYv. Lish also states, "many of these recommendations come from seeing work in tattoo mags or on websites." How does that make her list any more... important than a list an individual, any individual, could create on their own? Tattoo fan: "Dude. Cool list. How'd you create such a... WONDER!?" Potentially Anyone on the Planet: "Uh, I looked at tattoo mags and a buncha Web sites." Whatever. http://www.compunction.org/tattoos.html It's a tool. It's not the holy grail.
