Amy:
Today I went to The Limited and learned that they no longer carry a size 14. I've sent a letter to their Board of Directors (See below). What do other people think of this?I have been shopping at The Limited for many years and I have always thought of it as a very classy store. I purchased my first suit there for my first interview and a majority of my work wardrobe is of Limited attire. I do not own a pair of dress pants that are not from the Limited. I like to think of myself as a loyal customer. Well today I decided that it was time to invest in a new pair of pants for work (and at $66 a pair it is very much an investment).

Now I have not bought a new pair in a while and was unfamiliar with the new naming of the pants. Every pair I own are wide leg and fit my very well. After deciding that the Aubry was the closest to the wide leg style that I loved so much, I began to search for my size in black. After searching a couple of racks of pants I was unable to find my size so I asked a sale assistants for help. I told her I was looking for a black pair of the Aubry in a size 14.

That is when the sales girl informed me that The Limited no longer carried a size 14 and only carried up to a size 12. Well needless to say I was in shock. She assured me that I would fit in the 12 stating that they were cut big. Well I tried on the 12 and they did not fit me the way that the 14 would of. I did not buy them.I do not consider myself to be a fat person. Yes, I am curvy but I am in no way overweight. I am a size 14, which is the AVERAGE size of women in America. My question to you is, why did you eliminate the size 14 from your stores? By eliminating my size from your store, you are giving me the message that you no longer want my business or the business of hundreds of thousands of other size 14 consumers. Why would you eliminate a size 14 when other stores like New York and Company, The Gap and Old Navy are adding addition sizes up to a 20, even Banana offer a size 16 online.

I don't understand why your company would make such a move especially in this day and age when women are fighting to be happy with themselves, a time when self image is so important that you have teenage girls starving themselves to be thin. I honestly do not understand and I would like an explanation as to why you did this. Could you also please tell me where I am suppose to shop now? I am too thin to shop at "plus" size stores, and according to you, I am too fat to be seen in your store.

You have lost a loyal Limited customer..I hope you are happy.

I know a few people who work for Limited and they said that the company tried to do this before and they had so many complaints that they stopped. Their main reason was to "focus on their primary market", but that was a bad move in their marketing department. If they need to do this for financial/other reasons, don't leave out sizes- if anything, just make less of what doesn't sell as often. The Limited also no longer carries a size 0. I really think that this won't last more than a year and they'll eventually bring the X-small and X-large sizes back.
IMO, most stores should cater to petite builds along with curvy builds, or else they'll lose out to the competition.

I went to AE looking for jeans, and I am a size 12. There were none on the shelves when I asked about them, the salesperson looked at me like I had a disease and said, very archly, "We don't carry PLUS sizes."
And don't get me started on Victoria's Secret, where my bra size is a full cup smaller than in any other brand's bra and have to size up in panties by a size. That's nice smaller boobs and a bigger butt, courtesy of a store. Grr.

Amy. your letter to The Limited is fantastic. Logical, sensible, and economically valid. It's got to make them think if anything does.

The competing companies like JCrew, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, etc.

I see a lot of plus-size women shopping in our stores and I know that if we have their sizes available, they'll buy multiple items. The Limited will lose out when people like the OP find other stores that suit their needs/wants/size.

Write a letter to the company on Planetfeedback.com. Do you have the associate's name? I cannot believe they would treat you that way!

What a beyotch. Nastiness without provocation is uncalled for. In a salesperson, it should never be, even if the customer was nasty.

Not to mention that AE DOES carry 12...they carry up to 16 in-store, and up to 18 online.
