The best oitments I've used are some of the less obvious. You need something that will stop the tat itching as it heals. It limits the urge to scratch and damage the work. Aslo something that reduces swelling and bruising but you also need to let the skin breath. I have used perperation H in the past which had good results, another to try is bepantham. The best perpose built tat cream I've tried is tattoo goo, its all natural to. I found with them all that the tat healed quickly but didn't damage the tat.

I use a simple A&D ointment for the first few days, then after that I mix the A&D ointment at times and other times I use a regular Neutrogena unscented lotion ( the lotion works a hell of a lot better when you are wearing clothing and doesn't stain. It works for HOURS). When it comes to the itching I just deal with it or tap/slap it a little bit. They never really itched that bad.

ALSO for after your tattoo is healed, Miami Ink puts out this tattoo shield/non-fading stick that works gems to not let your tattoo fade when tanning/out in the sun. It almost looks like a mini deodorant.

Lubriderm works great and its cheap, comes in a large dispenser, and I heal twice as fast with it then stupid tattoo goo which is crap. Lubriderm doesn't bock the pores and doesn't contain anything that will get in the way of proper healing like bees wax and lanolin.
