I love endorphins - apparently people get addicted to them - that's why some people eat so much spicy food, enjoy S&M, or like it when they lose fights (although that's also adrenalin). Once i accidentally went through a closed window and even though i had a huge piece of glass sticking out of my arm, i didn't feel a thing - endorphins - but with a tattoo it takes a while for them to kick in - it's not sudden like when you get a big injury, so the first part of the tattoo is going to hurt until they start working in your blood stream.

Of course endorphins are going to be addictive they are natural "opiates" produced by the body. The evolutionary reason for them is so people don't pass out from pain, they are partly the reason you don't panic in the event of extreme shock (like getting hit by a car or having glass in your arm). In fact you'll notice things only really hurt later on, way after a wound is inflicted, this is because your body has stopped secreting them and now your pain receptors are working normally.
