Nope. That's not a typo. It's Mayan foot ball. The players were bodypainted. Anyone have any images of this type of body paint? Sitting in NJ, I read an article in an Indian publication about body painted Mexican footballers in Germany. I love the internet! [link] a different ball game for Mexico RoByn www.nycbodyart.com

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CONTACT: Mark Greenawalt, artist [link] BODYPAINTING AT HEINLEIN SOCIETY BLOOD DRIVEBodypainting artist Mark Greenawalt will pay tribute to the late science-fiction author Robert A. Heinlein this Saturday at the 32nd Annual LepreCon Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention. Greenawalt will be recreating the artwork from several Heinlein novels on live nude models to promote awareness of the blood drive held by the Heinlein Society from 10:00 am till 2:00 pm. Heinlein readers will recall that the National Rare Blood Club was an integral part of his novel I WILL FEAR NO EVIL and, in an appendix to the novel, he informed his readers that the organization he had written about actually existed and deserved their support. Mr. Heinlein traveled extensively to promote this important cause and frequently donated himself. This same novel referenced the use of bodypaint as clothing and featured a cover with nude model painted blue with white stars. This will be one of the covers brought to life through Greenawalt's body art. Robert Heinlein organized a blood drive in 1976 at MidAmericon, the 34th World Science Fiction Convention, with the help of other science fiction devotees and well-known authors. It started a tradition that has been carried on throughout countless conventions in his memory. This year the United Blood Services of Phoenix will be on hand at the Embassy Suites at I-17 and Greenway with hopes of exceeding donations from previous years. Greenawalt's bodypaintings have appeared in numerous national magazines and his clients have included Maxim, Playboy, Budweiser, and Camel. He is a fan of science fiction and has been a featured artist for the past several years at LepreCon as well as other conventions such as CopperCon, the Phoenix Film Festival, and San Diego's ComicCon. I've been gone for about 8 months, and thought I'd drop in and see how things are. I doubt I'll be watching the groups as much as I used to, but I hope it's still a fun gang. Jerry

[link] [nq:1]From the issue dated April 14, 2006Uncovered in Paint[/nq] By AMY RAINEY Of all the student performances at Brandeis University, tickets to Liquid Latex are among the most expensive. That's because buying 25 gallons of body paint can get pricey. The show, which began seven years ago as an art student's thesis project, features dancers wearing only flesh-colored thongs and intricate costumes made of latex paint. Hence this year's theme: "Shirt, Shoes, No Entrance." Performances have included a range of musical numbers, like a light-hearted song from Sesame Street and a restaging of Michael Jackson's ghoulish video Thriller. Rachel E. Beaulieu (right, in tiger stripes), a senior who has participated in the show for four years and is treasurer of the Liquid Latex Club, designed the costumes this year for her number, "Cell Block Tango" from the musical Chicago. Six female dancers were painted different colors and animal prints were stamped directly onto their bodies. Before being painted, which can take all day, the models have to shave every area of their bodies that will be covered in paint. "Otherwise, when you pull it off," says Ms. Beaulieu, "it will be the worst exfoliation of your life." "I originally started doing the show because I wanted to improve my outlook on the way I looked," says Ms. Beaulieu, who likens her approach to "the way people who are afraid of heights go skydiving." Although the nudity may attract first-time audience members, Ms. Beaulieu says it is not what the show is about. "It's a very unique experience to be able to design a costume directly onto the human body," she says. "The liquid latex allows you to do things you could never do with cloth and a sewing machine."
